What Omeprazole & Domperidone Capsules ?
Omeprazole and Domperidone capsules are a combination medication that contains two active ingredients: omeprazole and domperidone. This combination is used to treat certain gastrointestinal conditions
Omeprazole & Domperidone Capsules Uses
- Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD):
- This is a condition where stomach acid regularly flows back into the esophagus, causing symptoms like heartburn and regurgitation. Omeprazole helps reduce the production of stomach acid, while domperidone helps improve the movement of food through the digestive system.
- Peptic Ulcers:
- Peptic ulcers are sores that develop on the lining of the stomach or duodenum (the first part of the small intestine). Omeprazole helps heal and prevent the formation of these ulcers by reducing stomach acid.
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome:
- This is a rare condition where the stomach produces excessive amounts of acid. Omeprazole is used to manage the excess acid production.
- Gastritis:
- Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining. Omeprazole can help in cases of gastritis where excessive stomach acid production is a contributing factor.
Omeprazole & Domperidone Capsules – Mechanism of Action and Pharmacology
Mechanism of Action: Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by irreversibly inhibiting the enzyme H+/K+ ATPase in the stomach lining. This enzyme is responsible for the final step in the production of stomach acid. By inhibiting this enzyme, omeprazole significantly reduces the secretion of gastric acid.
Pharmacology:
- Absorption: Omeprazole is a prodrug, meaning it’s inactive until it reaches the acidic environment of the stomach. Once there, it is converted into its active form. Absorption is rapid, and peak plasma levels occur within 2 hours after oral administration
