Olanzapine is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as atypical antipsychotics. It is used to treat various mental health conditions, primarily schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (specifically the manic phase). Olanzapine helps to balance the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain, which can alleviate symptoms associated with these conditions.
Olanzapine Tablets Uses
- Schizophrenia: Olanzapine is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia, a severe mental disorder characterized by distorted thinking, hallucinations, delusions, and a loss of contact with reality.
- Bipolar Disorder: It is used to manage acute manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder. Olanzapine may be prescribed alone or in combination with other medications to stabilize mood and prevent future episodes.
- Bipolar Depression: In some cases, olanzapine is used in combination with fluoxetine (a type of antidepressant) to treat the depressive episodes of bipolar disorder.
