What Esomeprazole Capsule ?
Esomeprazole is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It is used to treat conditions caused by excess stomach acid, including:
- Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): This is a chronic condition where stomach acid frequently flows back into the tube connecting your mouth and stomach (esophagus). Esomeprazole helps in reducing the production of stomach acid and thus alleviates the symptoms like heartburn, acid regurgitation, and other GERD-related symptoms.
Esomeprazole Capsule Uses
- Peptic Ulcers: Esomeprazole is used to help heal and prevent ulcers in the stomach and duodenum (the first part of the small intestine). It helps by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach, allowing the ulcers to heal and preventing new ones from forming.
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: This is a rare condition where the stomach produces too much acid. Esomeprazole can be used to manage this condition by significantly reducing acid production.
- Non-Erosive Reflux Disease (NERD): This is a subtype of GERD where patients experience typical symptoms of GERD, but endoscopic examination does not show any evidence of esophageal damage. Esomeprazole can be prescribed to relieve symptoms in NERD.
- Preventing Aspirin-Induced Ulcers: Esomeprazole, in combination with aspirin, is sometimes prescribed to individuals at risk of developing ulcers due to long-term aspirin use.
