About Drug

What is Analgin Tablet ?

Analgin tablet is typically prescribed for conditions such as headaches, dental pain, menstrual cramps, postoperative pain, and other types of acute or chronic pain. It works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins in the body, which are chemicals that play a role in pain, inflammation, and fever.

Analgin or any other medication containing metamizole only under the guidance and prescription of a healthcare professional, and to follow the recommended dosage and safety guidelines. Additionally, it’s important to be aware of any potential side effects and consult a doctor if you experience any adverse reactions.

Analgin Tablets Tablet Uses

Pain Relief: Analgin is used to relieve different types of pain, including mild to moderate pain such as headaches, dental pain, muscle pain, menstrual cramps, and post-operative pain.

Fever Reduction: It is effective in reducing fever in individuals with conditions such as infections or other causes of elevated body temperature.

Inflammatory Conditions: Analgin can also be used to manage pain and inflammation associated with conditions like arthritis or musculoskeletal disorders.

Analgin Tablet – Mechanism of Action and Pharmacology

  • Inhibition of Cyclooxygenase (COX): Analgin inhibits the activity of the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), which is involved in the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are lipid compounds that play a crucial role in promoting inflammation, pain, and fever. By inhibiting COX, Analgin reduces the production of prostaglandins and subsequently diminishes pain and fever.
  • Antipyretic Action: By reducing prostaglandin production in the brain’s hypothalamus, Analgin helps lower the body’s temperature in individuals with fever.
  • Anti-Inflammatory Action: Analgin possesses anti-inflammatory properties by reducing the production of inflammatory mediators, including prostaglandins, which are responsible for promoting inflammation, redness, and swelling at the site of injury or inflammation.
  • Peripheral Analgesic Action: Analgin’s analgesic effect is mainly attributed to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis in peripheral tissues, reducing pain sensations.
  • Antispasmodic Action: Analgin may have antispasmodic effects on smooth muscles, helping to alleviate spasms and cramping in various parts of the body.

Pharmacology: After oral administration, Analgin is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The peak plasma concentrations are typically reached within 1-2 hours. It is metabolized primarily in the liver into its active metabolites. The main metabolite, 4-methylaminoantipyrine, contributes to its analgesic and antipyretic effects.

The drug is eliminated through the kidneys, primarily in the form of metabolites. The elimination half-life varies among individuals but is generally around 8-10 hours.

Analgin Tablet – Composition and Active Ingredients

Active Ingredient:

  • Metamizole (Dipyrone): This is the primary active ingredient, responsible for the analgesic and antipyretic effects
  • Fillers and binders: Substances that give the tablet its form and hold it together.
  • Disintegrants: Substances that help the tablet break down in the body.
  • Lubricants: Agents that aid in the tablet’s release from the manufacturing equipment.
  • Coating agents: Materials used to coat the tablet, making it easier to swallow and sometimes for delayed release

Analgin Tablet – Side-effects

  • Allergic reactions: These can manifest as skin rashes, itching, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, and difficulty breathing. Allergic reactions can range from mild to severe and require immediate medical attention.
  • Agranulocytosis: This is a severe and potentially life-threatening condition characterized by a significant reduction in white blood cells, particularly granulocytes. It can lead to a compromised immune system and susceptibility to infections.
  • Aplastic anemia: Analgin has been associated with causing aplastic anemia, a condition where the bone marrow fails to produce enough blood cells, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
  • Thrombocytopenia: A decrease in platelet count, which can lead to an increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising.
  • Gastrointestinal effects: Analgin can irritate the gastrointestinal tract, leading to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
  • Kidney damage: Prolonged use of Analgin can potentially cause kidney damage or worsen existing kidney problems.
  • Liver damage: Analgin can have adverse effects on the liver, although severe liver damage is rare.
  • Dizziness and drowsiness: Some individuals may experience dizziness or drowsiness while taking Analgin, affecting their ability to concentrate or operate machinery.
