What Lansoprazole & Domperidone Capsules ?

Lansoprazole and Domperidone are two different medications that are sometimes combined into a single capsule for specific medical purposes.

Lansoprazole:
- Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drug. It works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach. This can be beneficial in conditions where excessive stomach acid production

Domperidone:

Domperidone is a medication that helps to move food more easily through the stomach and intestines. It’s often used to relieve symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. It can also be used to treat disorders of the digestive system like gastroparesis

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD):
- This is a condition where stomach acid backs up into the esophagus, causing symptoms like heartburn and acid regurgitation. Lansoprazole helps by reducing the production of stomach acid, which can alleviate these symptoms.
Peptic Ulcers:
- Lansoprazole can be used to treat peptic ulcers in the stomach or duodenum (the first part of the small intestine). It helps in healing the ulcers and preventing their recurrence.
Gastritis:
- Lansoprazole is sometimes used to manage gastritis, which is an inflammation of the stomach lining.
Delayed Gastric Emptying (Gastroparesis):

Mechanism of Action:

Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system in the gastric parietal cells.
This inhibition leads to a reduction in gastric acid secretion, which is beneficial for conditions like gastric ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (a rare condition where the stomach produces too much acid).

Pharmacology:

Absorption: Lansoprazole is usually administered orally. It is acid-labile and is absorbed in the small intestine after the enteric-coated granules dissolve in the higher pH environment of the small intestine.
